Minerva Arebalo, BA
Hello all, my name is Minerva. I grew up in the Bay Area and just moved to Seattle to continue my graduate education. I am pursuing a MSW degree because I believe in helping those around me and wish to see everyone in a community be successful. I have volunteered in different communities since I was 15 years old as a reading tutor to young kids, a technology tutor to the elderly, and shelter/food pantry volunteer and these experiences have only strengthened my passion to continue to help others.
I grew up around a lot of people who did not pay much attention to their mental health until it was too late and this is what inspires me to learn more about mental health illnesses and help others before it becomes too late. When I was 19, I organized a Suicide Prevention open-mic event on national suicide prevention day and learned that a lot of different factors affect every person differently, here is when I truly learned that not every person is going to be the exact same as someone else so there has to be different approaches and methods to every individual you help.
I hope to raise more awareness about mental illness and destigmatize the negative conceptions about people with mental health illnesses as I have seen it firsthand of how harmful this is. Everyone should know there is always an outlet to get the help you need.
